| The
Moravian Rugby Club has an interesting history.
In the Spring of 1973, several Moravian students
and a number of local players created the Moravian
College Rugby Football Club. They were fully
active for three seasons, the Spring of 1973,
the Fall of '73, and the Spring of '74. They
then disbanded.

Interest
at Moravian College died out, but interest in
the Lehigh Valley was just beginning. In 1974
the Bethlehem Hooligans RFC began playing rugby
at the local fields. Around the same time the
Allentown Blues Rugby RFC was forming as well.
Years later
these two
long-standing and elite men's clubs merged. The
descendants of the merger are now members of
the Lehigh Valley Rugby Football Club. Through
this series of steps the LVRFC was born out of
the ashes of what was once the Moravian College
Rugby Football Club.

Finally,
in the fall of 2007 a Freshman on the Moravian
campus began forming what is now the Moravian
Rugby Club. With the help and support of the
college community enough people participated
to allow the club to be chartered on April 2nd,
2008. Poetically, with the help of the LVRFC,
the Moravian Rugby Club is reborn and given the
chance to play again for the LVRFC.
We
realize that people come out for rugby with different
individual goals - some are competitive, some
are developmental, some are social. Fortunately,
we are a club that has a place for everyone,
regardless of your goals, your experience or
talent
- even regardless of your being able to
commit full-time or part-time to the team. Overall,
you will find that rugby is a good way
to get some exercise, develop new skills and
challenge
yourself physically and mentally. In addition,
it's a great sport that offers numerous opportunities
to meet new people and have a lot of fun! |
